Dewey has not only seen a bunch of new and interesting types of plants on the island, but he's met a whole lot of different animals too. First, he saw 3 deer in his backyard, which he had to keep from eating the new plants in the flower garden. He read them stories to keep their minds off the yummy plants. Next, he met Sammy the Snake who was out for a slither. Sammy had interesting tales to tell about his first time exploring the Island, but more on that some other blog. Then, Dewey noticed a great bald eagle out for a morning flight. He was a little worried that the eagle would think HE looked tasty, but the eagle had other plans for breakfast.
Dewey was amazed by all the wildlife Dewey encountered, but the most famous was a talkative old sea gull named Charles de Gaulle. Charlie entertained Dewey with stories of his many adventures. We were lucky to get a picture of Dewey with Charlie, but the other animals were too shy for photos.
Maybe next time. That's it for now! Have a happy day, everyone!
Dewey was born in the Victor Mager School library in Winnipeg in 2007. The children and staff of Victor Mager School were phenomenal, and welcomed Dewey into the world with love and joy and amazing stories.

Adventure Log, Day 2--Dewey Discovers a new Hobby
Dewey was inspired by all the beautiful plants he saw on the island, and took up gardening. First, he planted some Snap Dragons in his new garden. Dewey did this to honour his new buddy, Sock Dragon. The plant has been nicknamed "Snappy", and Dewey is careful to water it every other day, unless it rains. Sock Dragon was deeply touched by Dewey's kindness, and brought him some chamomile tea. They sat on the deck and had a tea party to celebrate. Osgood Pinky Toes was also invited and baked some gingerbread cookies in the shape of pirate ships. They were yummy.
Dewey misses the kids and books at Victor Mager School Library in Winnipeg, but is happy to hear that they are doing well and are continuing to read through the long hot summer.

Dewey the Dog Blog--Arriving on the Island
Dewey's Adventure Log--Day One
Well, Dewey finally arrived at Vancouver Island after a lengthy stay in a tight spot with some other passengers. They got to know one another very well on the trip. Osgood Pinky Toes (left of Dewey) was quite an interesting fellow as he told lots of entertaining stories about being a pirate by night and a kindergartener by day. Sock Dragon was rather quiet at first, perhaps due to some mild motion sickness (apparently some dragons don't enjoy long-distance travel). It turns out Sock Dragon is a vegetarian so Dewey and Osgood Pinky Toes had nothing to fear.
All three adventurers are ready to explore the island and get to know their new home.
